I Killed My Android

I Killed My Android

My 15 month experiment with Android is over. It began so promising only to sour in the end.

I purchased the original iPhone in 2007 which I used primarily for work. I knew then that we were looking at the future of the mobile device which ultimately proved to be true. Today, almost all mobile phones have iPhone-like user friendly screens and software that can accomplish most of what your laptop can. And 2007 was when most companies wouldnt support Outlook e-mail on the device, so I endured a clumsy work-around. Nevertheless, the phone was like purchasing your first car, opening up a new world of freedom and excitement.

Best and Worst of 2012

Best and Worst of 2012best and worse of the year 2012

Like most people, this is the time of year when the best and worst of practically everything gets written about. From books to music to movies to design to celebrities, you name it. So, of course, I must opine on what I consider to be the best and worst of marketing of the past year. Some of these are a little offbeat, but I hope you find this interesting. Let’s get started.

THE 5 BEST (off the top of my head)

1.    ALL THINGS APPLE

What can you say about a company that epitomizes the modern marketing model. Look at the impressive list of notable new products launched this year: iPhone 5 (they are still on backorder), the mini iPad, the new iPod nano, the new MacBook Pro with the retina display, the iMac and the Mountain Lion. Forget the tribulations with the stock price, they’re still the cool kid on the block to be reckoned with. But now that Steve Jobs has passed, can Apple and Tim Cook still set the example of how to be disruptive and blaze new vistas? Let’s see, as we’ll be watching.

Ok, I’ll come close to admitting that I’m an Apple fan boy. Before I bought my own Apple Mac Air (on which I’m writing this), I had already bought 3 Apple laptops for my 3 kids as graduation gifts from high school (“this is what we’ll get you so you’ll be all set for college”; I know, life isn’t fair). I asked them what brand they wanted each time one of them graduated, and each wanted an Apple laptop. Soon after we made the switch in our household from a windows based PC to an Apple MacBook and we never looked back. I can’t tell you how many times the damn PC became infected with viruses, which required someone from the outside to fix. And this happened time after time after time. With the Apple laptop, goodbye viruses. Plus, I recently asked my youngest daughter Madison who attends Fairfield University if any of students she knows who use windows based pc’s ever have problems. “All the time” was her response. Now imagine you’re a student working on a term paper and caput goes your PC at 11pm. Who you going to call? Forget it. You’re toast. In the 4 years that each of my kids used Apple MacBooks, not once did they have any technical issues. And you know who hard kids can be with laptops? Oy vey.
